Mid-Year Conference in southern Spain. Yes, it is a gorgeous resort right on the
sunny beaches of Nerja. I spent our
first morning sitting on a ledge, white legs in shorts dangling about a meter
over the sand, saying “When you look out at something like this, it’s hard to
think about all the pain and hard things in life.” That was true for about a day. No, the weather didn’t change, but my need to
continue to process the big things in life was revealed as the week
progressed. What it came to was I needed
(and still need to) practice total surrender to God. I’m holding onto fears of the future, pain
from the past, and coping mechanisms for the present. It is going to have to be a daily CHOICE
based on facts and not feelings to trust God and give Him complete
control. This is no new concept, but was
very much a reminder I needed. Instead,
I need to trust God to give me hope for the fears, healing for the pain, and
comfort from making HIM my coping mechanism.
And I should clarify: this is a VERY hard thing to
practice. Again, it is a daily choice,
not a “one and done” exercise. But
relinquishing that control and completely surrendering to Him gives me some of
the greatest peace I’ve ever experienced before. Try it.
Wake up each morning and say, “Yes, God, I trust you. You know what you’re doing and I know you are
faithful.” I’ll be right with you in
attempting to make this a regular part of my life. So let me know how you’re doing.
