Sweet Honey

After I listened to my colleague compare God to the taste of sweet honey on your tongue, I couldn't help but think more about that over the past 4 days.  Yes, God is that amazing sweet taste on your tongue, but isn't that taste so much sweeter and so much more treasured when you have tasted bitterness?  I can think back on difficult times, this year and before, and remember that horrible taste from those trials and sufferings.  But God's goodness and blessings now taste so much sweeter BECAUSE of those things I have experienced.

As the Psalmist cries out in chapter 42 for a taste of God, he says "These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go with the multitude, leading the procession to the house of God, among the festive throng.  Why are you downcast, O my soul?  Why so disturbed within me?  Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God." [verses 4,5,6a]  Despite the bitterness he is currently tasting, he remembers the sweet taste of God, and longs to experience that again, hoping in God's provision and blessing.

In times of tasting bitterness, I will long for that sweetness again; and in times of sweet honey on my tongue, I will treasure it all the more.  Praise be to God.
